ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR FABRIC PAINTING
Some ideas and suggestions for fabric painting:
Hand or foot prints
Abstract art – just let them loose with a brush and colours!
Stencils – especially good for the younger ones
Sponge stamping – may be tricky for younger ones, but possible with your guidance!

Some guidance for setting up to fabric paint:
Create a design for the item – this could be lightly drawn in pencil first or you could use stencils, foam stampers, hand/footprints etc.
Insert newspaper or cardboard between the fabric layers or behind the fabric to prevent paint from seeping through to the other side.
Paint the design using the fabric paint – you can thin the fabric paint with water if you wish.
If painting both sides, allow first side to dry thoroughly before painting the second.
To dry, lay flat for at least 24 hours. Then fix the paint by ironing with a hot iron. Wash as normal.

You must put cardboard inside the t-shirt/bag (or behind the tea-towel/apron) under the area where you will be putting the design. Cardboard should not be removed until paint is totally dry. Tape the garment around the board as taut as you can, but don’t over-stretch. For stencilling, tape the stencil to the garment – protect the rest of the garment with paper. Use brush or sponge. Don’t over-load paint brushes – you can go over stencils until you are satisfied with coverage. Older children can paint their own pictures or you can draw simple pictures/trace from colouring books and they can fill them in.
FABRIC PAINTING CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Very Important – you must fix the colour by ironing the reverse side of the fabric. Do not remove cardboard until item is dry. To prevent item from sticking to cardboard, lift it away from cardboard occasionally until dry. Any “bits” that stick to the garment will eventually wash off. Once paint is totally dry -- Set Iron on fabric’s recommended maximum and iron over design for at least 10 minutes. Do iron the garment before wearing. Do iron the reverse of the item to prevent your iron sticking to paint and causing smudging. As long as you have fixed correctly, garments can be treated normally and washed with other items of similar colour. Whites can confidently be washed with other whites – the fabric paints will not run!
REMEMBER!! This is fabric paint and will not wash out of your clothes or furnishings. Protect your clothes and surrounding surfaces and wipe off paint slashes immediately.
